Hello, Lovelies of Writing Home!
Within two years, we've managed to get over 300 users. Although we're still small and have a lot of growing to do, I'm so happy to have every last one of you here.
Today (this week), I want to have a community talk about something serious that I see people talk/vent about all the time--partner post time.
Remember: When replying, be polite. you can quote and comment to other people as long as your commenting politely. This is meant to be an open discussion that can help people create boundaries or even become more relaxed so that they can worry less about partner's replying.
So, today's question:
How long will you wait for a partner to reply?
Do you make this known ahead of time?
Are there exceptions?
My Answer: Generally, there is a lot of variation to how long I will wait on a partner. If it's a new partner and they do one or two posts timely, but then stop, they are usually given 2 weeks to respond IF they are still OOCing with me and/or let me know something came up.
If I just sent out an opener, they have five to seven days before I give up, whether they are OOCing with me or not. If it takes them that long to respond to an RP they wanted to do from the start, it usually (not always) is not a good sign of things to come.
If someone has been in a long-standing roleplay with me, have been good with communication, and has either let me known they will be busy or have fully disappeared from the site (but account is still there), I will sometimes let it wait up to a month or more.
I will often send my partners a message to ask if they are still interested in the roleplay, plan to post soon (after the time frame has past), to let them know I'm giving them the option to let me know they want out.
Generally, I am understanding that my partners have a life. I understand that people don't have as open a work schedule as I do. I understand my partners have spouses and kids, which I do not. However, I do make it known on my threads that my partners must have reasonable time to roleplay. While waiting weeks for a post works for some, it does not for me. It's like reading a page of a book and having to set it aside for a week or more to read the next page. I will lose interest and move on to something else.
So, now that you know mine. Let's discuss yours. :)
