Good Late Evening, Lovelies of Writing Home.

Tonight, it came to our attention that a small edit needed to be made to our rules.
While we make this edit, please know that no one is in trouble.
As we continue to grow and become wiser, we will often learn from things our users do that we may not want them doing.
In essence, it is our fault for not having these rules defined sooner, but we are bound to miss some things early on.

With that said, a new rule has been added to the Spam section in our Site Content Rules.

The rule being enacted is a ban on 'Stranger Requests' (what we will call them moving forward), which will be considered spam.

A Stranger Request is the act of sending out Private Messages, or posting in other user's statuses, asking them to roleplay when the user contacted has 1 ) never spoken with the requester before and 2 ) does not have an active search thread to warrant the contact.

As users have explained to us, they find it off-putting when someone they have no knowledge of contacts them to roleplay when they have nothing on the site indicating that they are currently looking for partners. Just existing on this site, even if it is for roleplaying, does not mean every user is actively searching.

The main reason these will be considered spam moving forward is because the users (some not all) often send out upwards of ten or more of these requests to random people.
Worse, sometimes, when they don't get a response, they repeat the act and send another message, which can turn their spam into harassment.

Moving forward, Stranger Requests will not be allowed.
If you're looking for roleplay partners, take a look at the search threads, be it 1 x 1 or groups.
If you can't find anything of interest, consider opening your own thread and being patient while waiting for someone to contact you.
You can even write a status asking if anyone wants to roleplay and see if someone responds.

If you receive a Stranger Request, consider informing the user of the rule, linking them if needed, before reporting.
Say something such as: "Hey, just so you know, sending out requests to roleplay with people who don't have active search threads can be seen as spam and is against the rules of this site. You can read about it here (Link)."

We understand not all users will care if they get these messages or not and we do not require everyone to report them.
This rule, though we will correct users who break it, is not considered a priority rule and we will let users decide how they want to deal with these requests when they get them.
We will only step in when it's clearly needed. Informing before reporting is key, but always report if the person is breaking other rules, harassing users, or simply refusing to abide by the rules.

Thank you for reading.

Sincerely,
