Lovely February, Writers of Writing Home!

This is our first February Writing Competition AND our first poem competition!
We hope you're as excited as we are!

To try and make your entry into the contest as smooth as possible,
we’ve broken down everything you need to know into segments below.

So, let's get started so you can start writing!

What is a Writing Competition and how does it work?

A writing competition is as it sounds.
We will provide a prompt (as seen below) for those who wish to join.

Contestants will write a story(or poem in this case), following the guidelines for this contest, and submit it by a deadline.
Our judges will go over all submitted work and decide, together, who they feel wrote the best story based on their prompt.
(There are 3 judges for this competition.)

Once a winner has been chosen, it will be announced publicly and they will receive their prize.
Also, once the winner has been chosen, all submitted entries will be available for viewing by the members of Writing Home.

The Winning Submission of our February 2022 Writing Competition!
@SillySpyder

Season of Red

At this time of year, I'm the color red
But not for the advertisements you see in stores overhead

I hate this more and more because I cry
And in this story, I'm going to tell you why

I once had a crush on a boy at school
But soon did I realize that I was a fool

I was the silent type, no talk, no problem
Yet kept me afraid of ever telling them

I kept the eerie silence through those four years
And kept praying I'd get over all my fears

But when it came to asking I never came close
And before I could we had to say adios

I graduated and left all my hopes behind
And forgot the boy I found so kind

Years passed and we reconnected
But not in the way I expected

He had found another in that time we spent apart
And it broke another piece off my aching heart

The season of red
Is a time I dread

It's filled with memories I'd rather not have had
And it's the time of year I am the most sad

As I cry on my pillow as I write this to you
Please don't forget to love those you love too

Love is essential but not always desired
Mostly not wanted by those with hearts that have tired

Keep your love close to your bed
And keep a reminder for the season of red
